Homecoming at Archbishop Bergan Catholic School

This past week was Homecoming Week at Archbishop Bergan Catholic School.  This time of year is one of my favorites stretches of activities within the school year.  I have extremely fond memories of the Homecoming week events while I was a student at Bergan.

So what exactly is this cultural phenomenon that is called Homecoming?
Homecoming is an annual tradition of the United States. People, towns, high schools and colleges come together, usually in late September or early October, to welcome back alumni and former residents. It is built around a central event, most often, a game of football.
The Fighting Knights played Stanton in our annual homecoming football game on this past Friay night.

During Homecoming week the coronation of a Homecoming Queen and at many schools, a Homecoming King also takes place. The candidates for this year's Homecoming Queen were Allison Dieckmann, Haley Kempf and Lexie Langley. The Homecoming King candidates were Dylan Gartner, Jack Wilmes and Eli Herink. A Homecoming dance for students is commonly conducted as well.  We held our Homecoming Dance and Coronation on Saturday Evening at the St Patrick Auditorium.

At Archbishop Bergan Catholic School we follow and practice many of the same traditions you see at other schools. We also have some of our own unique traditions. During Homecoming Week we have a series of "Dress Up Days" in which the students can break the dress code and participate in themed dress up days. The elementary students also had the opportunity to participate in a Spirit Dress Up Day on Friday. We are very proud of our students and their positive school spirit. It is the reason that we have so much Knight Pride and that it is truly a great time to be a Bergan Knight!
